Love is a powerful thing isn’t it? I never though I would go into a stranger’s home for dinner and leave after an hour loving them immensely.
Sister Rose is the nicest person I’ve met. She’s loving, caring and has such a beautiful spirit. Her family basically has a mini farm in their backyard. They have chickens, ducks, cows that they buy from Brother Rose’s family farm and a bunch of beehives in their garage. I had the most organic burger for dinner that I’ve ever had. I though the Five Guys burgers were healthy but there’s nothing better than freshly picked lettuce and tomatoes, meat from a cow they owned a couple weeks ago (rest in peace) and water from their own little well. I felt so healthy.
Anyways, this isn’t the reason I love her. I wont get into details but her family was inactive in the church a couple years ago. Her son has made a few bad decisions in his life that led him to leave home and cut any contact with his family. She told us about the situation and mentioned that the atonement has taken a lot of her pain even though it’s still very hard not knowing where he is and his situation.
I cannot imagine how hard it is for her. If you see her, you can notice she is a very strong woman, specially fighting against a disease she contracted a while ago. Sister Monson read a scripture to her and drew a connection to how Heavenly Father gives agency and blessings to all his children, just like Christ’s Atonement.
I didn’t know how to help her but she said she felt good for having us there and for sharing our simple message. I love her.
another tender moment Sister Monson and I had this week was how a simple thing can make a big difference in someone’s day.
Tammy Smith is someone who found a church website and asked to meet with missionaries. She had a couple lessons in the past couple of months. She stopped responding messages and calls for about a month until she called us last Friday to let us know she had dropped her phone in the toilet and it stopped working. We went to see her right away and invited her to go to church. She was going to but yesterday morning she called us and said her daughter simply dropped her 5 kids at her house for the day.
About 30 min before church Sister Monson had a feeling we should at least visit her that morning and bring one of our 4 bags of cereal for the kids. When we got there, Tammy was about to start making some noodles for the kids at 9pm. She was very grateful for the cereal and said she can’t wait to go to church next Sunday.
The Holy Ghost speaks to us very softly and I’m glad Sister Monson followed the prompting she had.
Heavenly Father knows our needs and he never forgets about us. If we turn to Him with our deepest or simple thoughts and desires, he will help us. I know He is there and He listens to all my prayers. I love this gospel. I love the people in Delaware. I know Heavenly Father loves all His children, even if they make wrong decisions in life. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
