Ok I never thought I would do service at a nun’s house but I guess I am checking that one off on my bucket list! I learned a lot about the catholic faith and it was super nice!
Last week we invited members to do different kinds of things to spread the gospel and they did it! We had a sister write down her conversion story so we could translate it and send it to our friends investigating the church and one of the facebook pages we run. We had another sister post on facebook her testimony on family history and she shared the most beautiful story of her grandfather. A family we got to know over zoom also sent us the videos we invited them to make so we could also post on our facebook page. A sweet young woman we love reading come follow me with acted on our invitation to send a message to the daughter of our friend Valdineia, who we teach english to, and invite her to weekly activities the youth has. She did and sent us a message afterwards saying they texted back and forth for a while and she loved getting to know her.
None of these wonderful members speak portuguese but their love for the gospel is blessing our friends we teach and their friends on social media. I am so grateful to be learning from them to “let God prevail” whether it is in person, a written letter or a post on Social Media. The only active members who speak portuguese in our ward gave Valdineia and her daughters to church yesterday and it was so special to see them! The stake presidency really got our backs as well. They are letting us borrow headphones and translating devices for our friends visiting church. I felt very professional using them to translate the meeting to Valdineia and her girls!
We invited Jhonny to call his family for the spiritual message after the english class and his 15 year old son came. We asked them “If you could ask anything to a prophet, what would you ask?” After a few seconds his son Jhonny Jr asked what would have happened if Adam and Eve hadn’t eatten of the fruit of Good and Evil. We read 2 Nephi 2 and as soon as we were done he said “Wow. This just answered my question perfectly!”.
We also had a lesson with Mateus. The Portuguese elders found him and we gave him a Book of Mormon about a month ago. Our schedules finally lined up on Saturday and we had a lesson with him and a brazilian recent convert from the Singles ward. We found out he has read the Book of Mormon all the way to Jacob! Isn’t it cool?!
My companions are amazing and so ready to serve. They are two angels who teach me so many things each day. Today marks 16 months I have been out on my mission and I couldn’t be happier to be here! Sister Perez and Sister Shock just made it even more special with the little surprise they made me!
I love you all! And I have a question for you!
If you could ask the prophet anything, what would you ask?
I invite you to find the answer to your question in the Book of Mormon. The prophets there might have the answer you are looking for 😉
