I may have found a new hobby! A couple weeks ago a member of our ward asked us for some help with his talk on Sunday. He talked about missionary work so Sister Monson and I took a few minutes of our studies to find conversion stories and write our thoughts about them.
Studying the scriptures by topic is definitely much more meaningful and its such a great experience! I learned so much from the prophets in the Book of Mormon!
After church with the Young Single Adults branch we talked to a few members and they said Brother Novak mentioned us in his talk so we definitely had to ask him to send it to us haha. On his talk he talked about P.A.C.E.’ing in Missionary Work (Providing an Awesome Christlike Example) and said “the sister missionaries give me an example of Christlike Love and Service second to none”.
Missionary work is great and the Newark 3rd ward is great at being missionary minded. Two members came up to us a couple weeks ago and referred us two ladies so we visited them this week.
The first one was Mary. She has ALS and can only move her fingers and her feet. Despite her condition she is such a positive and happy woman. She was super excited to have us visit her. She called herself a “bible girl” and is super opened to have us talk about our beliefs and pray with her! Such a great woman.
Yesterday we met Mitzi who is a referral from a member in a different stake! She is super nice and have been around members of our church on a few instances in her life! She teaches (and taught) piano to a few kids at church, have met with missionaries about 30 years ago and had an amazing and powerful experience listening to the Tabernacle Choir of Temple Square back in the day when she was only 12 years old. She’s awesome.
Also, haven’t sent a Weekly Fun Fact for the last month but I got one this week: We stopped by an inactive member and saw his neighbor watering the plants on her front yard. When we were about to say hello she turned to us and said she wasn’t interested in hearing whatever we had to share with her. We asked if we could give her a card and she said no and that we should “really find Jesus Christ before going to hell!”. I wasn’t about to start a bible bash with that lady so we just turned around and wished her a good life. Funny how people can be so afraid of the Book of Mormon. It is just another set of prophets talking about Jesus and giving guidance to life on earth, among other things. The situation wasn’t fun but I just wanted to share it lol.
The gospel is true. Christ lives and I am privileged to carry his name with me everywhere. I love the Book of Mormon and the peace it brings me. Some people are afraid of this book but I can only say that it gives guidance to my life and brings me closer to God. I also know that there is a living prophet who guides the church nowadays (happy late birthday President Nelson 🎉). In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
