Crying missionaries in a bathtub
Crying missionaries in a bathtub
10/09/2019
Morning friends! Besides still trying to loose the Thankgiving weight, this week has been not too bad.
Sad news, my bestfriend is being transferred to some other area on the mission. Sister Wilhoit will be bringing her light to other people that need her. I actually called the mission president to tell him how well we work together and tried asking him to keep her here. He told me he would pray again. My plea didnt work but I know that it's because she's needed in other places. We cried in the bathtub after starting to pack her things but we are doing well.
Other than that, we had exchanges this week and we were in city center in Philly for two nights. It was a bit long but I got to see my favorite trainer, Sister Monson! I love that woman and apparently she has some PTSD just like me after our accident in Newark. I'm glad I'm not the only one lol.
But, one of the STL's chewed us out for working with members too much. I'm sorry friends but I'm about to rent a bit about this. Honestly, that caught me by surprise because you'd think a more experienced missionary would know that "tracting for 6 hours" is not effective (her words). Specially in this area where people are never chilling outside and there are many inactive members to work with. Missionary work changes in each area and honestly, if I have to choose between the member referrals we had this past 6 weeks and knocking doors for 6 hours with no success, I will gladly choose my favorite members and their referrals.
Also, referrals don't exactly mean that they have to be taught every lesson but that they have some sort of connection or contact with the gospel and I have two examples just from this week about it.
One of them was with Michelle. Michelle is a friend of a member who lives in a halfway home. Tonie is a returning member and she has had us for lunch almost every week and each time we come over a different woman that lives with her join us for the hour. Michelle had a rough time in High School and made some wrong decisions but she's doing what she can to go back to college and have her daughter back. She is going back home in Tenesse this week and told us how much she appreciated getting to know us.
The other instance was on Tuesday night at the Relief Society party when a member came to us right before we left to let us know how much her kids love us. We helped her younger daughter Lulu frost cookies after dinner and talked to her son Ethan about missions since he plans on serving one next year. He came up to her afterwards to tell her how much he enjoyed talking to us and how we are "normal missionaries" and that it made him want to serve even more.
I dont know. For me it means so much to know that the members and even the youth trust us and and that besides being missionaries we are also normal people. Members loved letting us know how they've had "weird sisters" in the past but not us. I love this because of my missionary work in this area, kids growing up will have some memories with missionaries and who knows, maybe they will want to serve a mission too.
Oh gosh. Maybe I'm renting too much about this lol. My bad friends. I love the mission though. I love this area and the people here. I love my companion and I am somewhat scared of finding out who I'll be companions with for the next 6 weeks or more.
I love you all! With gospel love and appreciation 😉
Sister Santos.
